The Toronto Maple Leafs may be short-handed on opening night.
Forward Dakota Joshua's status is uncertain for the Maple Leafs' opener against the Montreal Canadiens after suffering an unspecified injury, head coach Jim Hiller told reporters Monday.
Additionally, Joshua skated with the Toronto Marlies group at Monday's practice. He did not play in the Leafs' split-squad games against the Canadiens on Saturday, and Hiller told reporters then that he's "dealing with something."
Joshua, 30, tallied 10 goals and eight assists in 55 games in his first year with the Leafs last season after joining the team in an off-season trade from the Vancouver Canucks.
Despite missing 27 games, Joshua led Toronto in hits with 195.
Over his six-year career, the Dearborn, Mich., native has 50 goals and 46 assists in 296 games split between the Leafs, Canucks, and St. Louis Blues.
The Maple Leafs will get their season going on Sept. 29 when they host the Canadiens.
