Maple Leafs' Joe Thornton expected to miss time with injury

Joe Thornton would leave the game in pain after and awkward hit.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joe Thornton is expected to miss time after leaving Wednesday's game against the Edmonton Oilers with an apparent injury.

Thornton suffered the injury early in the third period after taking an awkward hit along the boards. He skated to the bench while appearing to favour his wrist, then headed to the locker room and did not return.

Toronto went on to lose the game 3-1.

The 41-year-old Thornton has one goal and one assist through five games with the Maple Leafs in 2021, his first season with the club after spending the past 15 with the San Jose Sharks.
