Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Timothy Liljegren and forward Pierre Engvall will miss part of training camp with injuries.
General manager Kyle Dubas said that Liljegren had an operation for a hernia injury that will sideline him for six weeks. Engvall suffered an ankle/foot injury and will be re-evaluated on Oct. 3.
Liljegren signed a two-year, $2.8-million contract this past off-season. The 23-year-old appeared in 61 games this season, scoring five goals and 23 points.
Engvall signed a one-year, $2.25-million contract back on July 17. The 26-year-old recorded 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists) in 78 games with the Maple Leafs during the 2021-22 season while collecting three assists in seven games during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The team also announced that forward Mikhail Abramov has a back injury and is not with the team start camp along with goaltender Joseph Woll, who is recovering from a shoulder operation from the end of the last season.
