After logging 24:14 in a physical, 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, Auston Matthews wasn't feeling well and left the Toronto Maple Leafs' Thursday practice early, coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters.
Keefe said further updates on Matthews' status will be provided Friday, when the Leafs face the Oilers in the latter half of their back-to-back.
With Matthews and veteran Joe Thornton -- who left Wednesday's game with an apparent injury and is expected to miss some time -- absent, Keefe mixed up the team's lines.
Matthews has two goals and three assists in five games this season.
