Count Auston Matthews as one of the many people across Canada rocking their Blue Jays jersey on Tuesday.
Less than 24 hours after the Blue Jays advanced to the World Series with a Game 7 win over the Seattle Mariners, the Toronto Maple Leafs captain wore a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. jersey ahead of Tuesday's game against the New Jersey Devils.
It's a fitting jersey choice for Matthews, as Guerrero decided to wear a Matthews jersey ahead of Game 7 on Monday despite the Maple Leafs' recent lack of success in do-or-die games.
The Maple Leafs have lost all three Game 7s they've played in the Matthews era, but after the Blue Jays' big win on Monday, John Schneider thinks that's about to change.
"I think Vladdy broke the curse by wearing Auston Matthews' jersey here today," the Blue Jays manager said to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon post-game.
How did the Maple Leafs feel about seeing Vladdy wearing a Maple Leafs sweater before Game 7?
"That was pretty cool," Chris Tanev said of Guerrero's jersey choice. "It's impressive to see the city rallying behind them."
"We're a sports town," Max Domi added. "Everyone in here is rooting for the Jays."
The 3-2-1 Maple Leafs will continue their pursuit of a Blue Jays-like run of their own on Tuesday when they host the Devils and former head coach Sheldon Keefe.
