Steven Lorentz won't be starting the season with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs are placing the forward on waivers, the team said Thursday.
Lorentz has been with Toronto the past two seasons. He played 71 games with the Maple Leafs last season and recorded seven goals and 11 assists.
The 30-year-old winger is signed by Toronto through the 2027-28 season at a cap hit of $1.35 million.
In other Leafs news, head coach Jim Hiller told reporters Thursday that he's unsure if Nick Paul will be ready for the season opener.
Paul exited Wednesday's pre-season game against the Ottawa Senators with an undisclosed injury.
Hiller said Thursday that the 31-year-old forward is considered day-to-day.
Paul was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning on July 1 for Dennis Hildeby and a fourth-round pick.
The 31-year-old forward had 15 points (seven goals and eight assists) in 51 games in 2025-26. But he surpassed 40 points in the previous two seasons.
