The Toronto Maple Leafs are up against it as the injury list continues to grow.
The Leafs provided several updates on key players currently on the team's injured list on Wednesday, including a clearer timeline for star winger Kirill Marchenko.
Marchenko, who exited Monday's 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames with a lower-body injury, has been listed week-to-week.
The 26-year-old was acquired by the Maple Leafs on the eve of the season from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Matthew Knies.
He's producing at a point-per-game clip with his new team, registering 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 13 games leading up to Monday.
In brighter news, defenceman Chris Tanev has been upgraded to day-to-day. He's been out of the lineup since Oct. 10, when he suffered an upper-body injury against the Colorado Avalanche.
He returned to Leafs practice on Monday, and on Wednesday was spotted without a no-contact sweater. Head coach Jim Hiller said there is a chance Tanev will return as early as Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks.
Tanev has struggled to stay healthy over the past two seasons. He appeared in just 11 games last season due to multiple injuries and underwent season-ending core muscle surgery in March. So far this year, he has one assist in six games.
Also listed on the team's injury report are Nick Blankenburg (week-to-week, upper-body), John Tavares (week-to-week, lower-body), Marshall Rifai (week-to-week, lower-body) and Dakota Joshua (recalled from conditioning loan with Marlies).
Joshua is an option to return Wednesday night against the Kraken (10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+) if his gear arrives in Seattle in time for puck drop, per Hiller. It would be Joshua's season debut; he had 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) in 55 games with Toronto last season.
The Leafs (7-5-2) are starting Sergei Bobrovsky on Wednesday. He has a 3.09 goals-against average and 0.897 save percentage in nine starts this season with a 3-4-2 record.
