It wasn't all his fault, but Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll saw his night come to an early end on Saturday.
Woll was pulled late in the second period against the Montreal Canadiens after he gave up four goals on 25 shots and his team was down 4-0 on the scoreboard.
The Canadiens scored two goals less than two minutes apart in the first period, then Noah Dobson added a third early in the second after the Leafs hung Woll out to dry with a bad change.
Josh Anderson delivered the final blow for Woll with just under seven minutes remaining in the second period.
The Canadiens were outshooting the Maple Leafs 16-2 in the second period when Woll was replaced by backup Dennis Hildeby.
With Anthony Stolarz on injured reserve, Saturday was Woll's fourth straight start for Toronto after he missed the beginning of the season because of a personal absence.
Woll entered Saturday's game with a 2.57 goals-against average and .923 save percentage over three starts.
After the poor start, the Leafs now face an uphill battle at the Bell Centre as they look to avoid their seventh loss in their past eight games.
