The Toronto Maple Leafs' youth movement has begun.
Forward Jacob Quillan was recalled from the AHL, the team announced on Thursday.
The move comes just hours after the team traded veteran centre Nicolas Roy to the Colorado Avalanche for first- and fifth-round picks.
Quillan, the 24-year-old from Dartmouth, N.S., has appeared in four games for the Maple Leafs this season and five total. He is still searching for his first career point.
In 38 games with the Toronto Marlies, however, the speedy centre has 12 goals and 21 assists to go with a plus-nine.
The Maple Leafs are back in action Thursday when they visit the New York Rangers.
Quillan could step into the lineup immediately after forwards Bobby McMann and Scott Laughton were scratched for roster management purposes in Wednesday's shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils alongside defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
