The Toronto Marlies will be well represented in New York on Thursday night.
Goalie Artur Akhtyamov, forwards Luke Haymes and Ryan Tverberg, and defenceman William Villeneuve were all called up from the AHL on an emergency basis by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, the team announced.
In a corresponding move, forward Bo Groulx was loaned back to the Marlies.
The four callups come after a tough night for the Maple Leafs in Washington, where they saw Anthony Stolarz, Brandon Carlo and Dakota Joshua all exit with injuries.
All three injured Leafs have already been ruled out for Thursday's game against the New York Islanders.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube confirmed after Wednesday's game that Akhtyamov, 24, will make his first NHL start against the Islanders.
In 36 games with the Marlies this season, Akhtyamov has a 20-12-4 record with a 2.90 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
Already eliminated from the playoffs, the shorthanded Maple Leafs will look to play spoiler against an Islanders team trying to climb back into the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
