The Toronto Maple Leafs can get one step closer to clinching a playoff spot in the North Division when they visit the rival Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night as minus-130 betting favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The Maple Leafs are coming off back-to-back wins in Winnipeg last week, putting the brakes on a season-worst five-game losing streak. With those victories, Toronto now sports a 16-6-2 away record, which is second-best in the NHL. The team has also cemented its position among the favourites on the Stanley Cup odds, where they are a short plus-750 wager.

However, the Maple Leafs have struggled to record consistent results in Montreal, where they have won two of three this season but just five of their last 17 dating back to November 2013.

The Canadiens return home breathing a sigh of relief following Monday's much-needed 2-1 win in Calgary. Listed as plus-110 underdogs for Wednesday's contest, the Canadiens have seen their grasp on fourth place in the division slip during a 4-8-0 run. Montreal has averaged just 1.75 goals per game over its past eight outings. The team has also scored just nine total goals over its past six home dates, allowing four or more goals four times during that stretch.

Elsewhere on the Wednesday NHL odds, the Ottawa Senators will be looking to record consecutive wins over Vancouver for the first time in four years as they battle the Canucks as minus-105 home underdogs. Ottawa turned in a sterling performance in Monday's 2-1 victory over the Canucks, and has now won five of seven overall. The Canucks, meanwhile, are listed as minus-115 road favourites for Wednesday night as they vie for a sixth win in nine away outings.

And later on Wednesday night the battle for second place in the North Division continues as the Edmonton Oilers visit the Winnipeg Jets as narrow minus-115 chalk at online betting sites.

The Oilers leapfrogged the Jets in the standings on Monday night with a decisive 6-1 series-opening win, and they have now won four of their last five games on the road. Slated as small minus-105 home underdogs for Wednesday night's contest, the Jets are now mired in a season-worst four-game losing streak. Winnipeg has scored just five total goals during its current slide, averaging just 1.57 goals per game while losing five of seven on home ice.
