The Toronto Maple Leafs are ensuring depth in their crease.
Goalie Artur Akhtyamov signed a three-year, $2.7 million contract extension, the club announced on Sunday.
Akhtyamov's deal is a two-way contract for next season and one-way in the following two.
The 24-year-old Russian made his NHL debut in December, stepping in mid-game against the Edmonton Oilers and stopping all five shots he faced.
With the AHL's Toronto Marlies, Akhtyamov owns an 18-10-4 record with a 2.86 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in 32 games this season.
He was originally selected by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round of the 2020 draft.
Toronto also has goalies Joseph Woll, Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby under contract for the next two seasons.
