The Toronto Maple Leafs are adding to their depth forward group.
In the latest move of what has been a busy opening day of free agency for Leafs GM John Chayka, the team signed centre Teddy Blueger to a two-year contract, the team announced on Wednesday.
The deal is worth $5 million, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported.
Blueger, 31, spent the past three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, helping them earn a playoff berth in 2023-24 by centring a prolific third line. That year matched his career high in points, with 28. This past season, Blueger matched another personal best with nine goals in 35 games with Vancouver. His new deal, which carries a $2.5-million cap hit, brings a raise from the $1.8-million AAV he played under with the Canucks.
The Riga, Latvia, native spent his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins before joining the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2023 trade deadline, where he earned a Stanley Cup ring. He appeared in six games during Vegas' Cup run, earning a goal and an assist.
In 453 career games, Blueger has 58 goals and 169 points.
