The Toronto Maple Leafs will have to finish Saturday's game down a forward.
The team announced ahead of the third period of their game against the Detroit Red Wings that Steven Lorentz had suffered an upper-body injury.
Lorentz played just three shifts in the first period, his last coming about halfway through the frame. He finished the night with 1:17 of ice time.
It appeared the 29-year-old suffered the injury after he was on the receiving end of a hit from Red Wings defenceman Ben Chiarot.
Head coach Craig Berube had no update on the severity of the forward's injury post-game, per Sportsnet's Luke Fox. Lorentz will be evaluated further once the Maple Leafs return to Toronto ahead of their rematch against the Red Wings on Monday.
Lorentz, from Kitchener, Ont., recorded two assists in the Maple Leafs' game on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
In 80 games last season, he posted eight goals and 11 assists.
