The second-oldest Staal brother spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, where he was an alternate captain. In 2021-22, Staal three goals and 13 assists in 71 games.
Joining him is brother Eric Staal, who has agreed to join the Panthers on a professional try-out. The eldest Staal last played NHL hockey with the Montreal Canadiens in 2020-21. Staal was the captain of the Canadian men's national team during the Beijing Olympics.
