The Edmonton Oilers came within one win of lifting the Stanley Cup last spring and gained some valuable experience despite the loss.
That experience was at the back of Connor McDavid's mind on Monday when he was asked what he thinks his team needs to add before Friday's trade deadline.
"You hope for some reinforcements, some depth and stuff like that because we know how hard it is," McDavid said, adding that he's been watching the moves that have already happened around the league like every other fan.

The Oilers are back in Edmonton after a five-game Eastern Conference road trip that began immediately after the 4 Nations Face-Off. The team went 1-4-0 during the trip but remains second in the Pacific Division with a 35-21-4 record.
McDavid was asked a follow-up question about which lineup spots the team should prioritize at the deadline but the captain deferred specifics to general manager Stan Bowman.
"My job is to make sure that everyone in here is ready to roll, myself first and foremost," he said. "It's not my job to go trade for guys."
