Nazem Kadri's been racking up assists with Calgary Flames this season, but he's also lending a helping hand off the ice.
The 35-year-old centre's Nazem Kadri Foundation donated $50,000 to the London Food Bank on Wednesday to help families in need during the holidays, CTV London reported.
Kadri, born in London, Ont., started the foundation over a decade ago in order to make a positive impact in the community where he was raised.
“You always are proud of where you’re from," Kadri told CTV London. "The sidenote, as well with the food bank, I mean it’s all volunteer based. So, we have some great people that are trying to contribute, trying to do what they can to help out the community, not just myself. And we figured we’d hop on board. And this is a great way to help."
The London Food Bank is a largely volunteer-run organization whose mandate is "to act as a front-line agency assisting those struggling to make ends meet."
Kadri's donation came at a time of urgent need. The food bank helped 6,125 households in October, a single month record, the organization confirmed to Sportsnet.
The Nazem Kadri Foundation previously donated $1 million to the London Health Sciences Foundation in 2020 in support of the Ambulatory Surgical Centre at London Health Sciences Centre. In honour of the donation, the centre was named the Nazem Kadri Surgical Centre.
