It will be a sweater showdown of the ages on Jan. 29.
The NHL has approved the Colorado Avalanche's requests to don their blue Nordiques jerseys for their game against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre, Sportsnet's Eric Engels reported Tuesday.
The Canadiens will be in their home red jerseys.
The Avalanche brought back the jersey as a celebration for the franchise's 30th season and were set to wear them for seven games this year. They had requested approval from the NHL to wear them for an eighth time for their meeting in Montreal.
Colorado wore the jersey when the Avs hosted the Habs on Nov. 29 and against the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 23. The Hurricanes wore a throwback Hartford Whalers sweater for that showdown.
The Nordiques played their final game on May 16, 1995, before the franchise relocated to Denver.
Here's a full list of the remaining games in which the Avalanche will wear Nordiques jerseys:
• Jan. 3, 2026, at Carolina Hurricanes
• Jan. 12, 2026, vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
• Jan. 29, 2026, at Montreal Canadiens
• March 16, 2026, vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
• April 1, 2026, vs. Vancouver Canucks
• April 11, 2026, vs. Vegas Golden Knights
