It was an especially dark day for the NHL on Tuesday as COVID-19 increasingly ran rampant throughout the league.
After the NHL postponed Calgary Flames games through Dec. 16 on Monday following six players and a staff member being placed in protocols, eight teams have reported additional COVID cases by early afternoon on Tuesday -- including the Flames adding three more players. In all, 17 players were placed in protocols just on Tuesday.
Also, Tuesday's scheduled game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild was postponed due to the Hurricanes' outbreak, and more cases and postponements could be on the horizon.
Here's the full list of people placed in protocol Tuesday:
Boston Bruins: Brad Marchand, Craig Smith
Calgary Flames: Milan Lucic, Sean Monahan, Noah Hanifin
Carolina Hurricanes: Jordan Staal, Andrei Svechnikov, Ian Cole, Steven Lorentz
Colorado Avalanche: Devon Toews
Edmonton Oilers: Ryan McLeod
New York Islanders: Mat Barzal
Philadelphia Flyers: Morgan Frost
Vancouver Canucks: Luke Schenn, Juho Lammikko, Brad Hunt, Tucker Poolman
