NHL fines Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella $25K

John Tortorella didn't feel like getting into the Blue Jackets' loss to the Lightning so made a quick exit at the post-game podium.

The NHL has fined Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella $25,000 for his conduct during a media availability following Game 5 of the team’s first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

In the wake of his team being eliminated from the post-season in five games by the Lightning on Aug. 19, Tortorella spent less than a minute in his media availability and took two questions before ending it prematurely and walking out.

“You know what guys, I’m not going to get into the touchy-feely stuff and the moral victories and all that,” Tortorella said after a question about his team’s experience in the Toronto bubble. “You guys be safe.”

The money from the fine will go to the NHL Foundation.
