Evgeni Malkin took a hit to his wallet on Sunday.
The NHL fined the Pittsburgh Penguins star $5,000 on Sunday for slashing Winnipeg Jets defenceman Logan Stanley.
The incident occurred in the second period of the Jets' 5-2 win on Saturday. Malkin was handed a minor penalty.
With the two players battling behind the net, Malkin turned around and chopped at Stanley's mid-section. The Jets defenceman briefly keeled over in pain but continued play.
It's the maximum allowable fine under the CBA. All money will go toward the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
