The Montreal Canadiens' goalie shuffle continues.
The reason? The Habs are still uncertain as to how long net mainstay Samuel Montembeault will be sidelined, coach Martin St. Louis told reporters on Thursday. St. Louis added that Montembeault was to be examined further later on Thursday.
Montembeault, who began this season as backup to Jakub Dobes, appeared to injure his right leg or right groin during one of the final drills at CN Sports Complex on Wednesday. He headed to the dressing room, giving way to emergency backup goaltender Nicolas Ruccia.
The other part of the day's shuffle featured recent call-up Jacob Fowler getting the nod as the starter Thursday night versus the Nashville Predators.
"He's on a path right now and he's not worried about the path," St. Louis told reporters, referring to Fowler. "He has a vision and he's staying on course with that vision. And if that means he had to go to Laval and be his best version, that's what he did and he's going to come up here and have the same mindset."
Fowler played 17 NHL games last season, registering a 9-6-2 record with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. The 21-year-old American backed up Dobes through the playoffs as Montembeault struggled.
