The Edmonton Oilers' goalie situation might remain in flux heading into the new season.
The team provided a slew of updates on Wednesday, including that goalie Frederik Andersen and forward Matt Savoie are not expected to participate in training camp next month while they rehab injuries suffered during off-season training sessions.
Andersen, 36, signed with Edmonton on a one-year deal this summer as an unrestricted free agent. The two-time all-star spent the 2025-26 campaign with the Stanley Cup-winning Carolina Hurricanes, posting a .874 save percentage and 3.05 GAA through 35 starts.
The Danish netminder's production saw a major uptick in the playoffs, however, as Andersen posted a .910 save percentage, 1.89 GAA and three shutouts over 16 games.
Edmonton did not announce specifics of his injury or when Andersen might return to help bolster the Oilers' ongoing struggles between the pipes. Edmonton was bottom-three in save percentage last season (.883) and bottom-10 in GAA.
Savoie entered the summer after his most active NHL season. The 22-year-old played all 82 games for the Oilers in 2025-26, racking up 18 goals and 19 assists in that span. Savoie finished seventh on the team in total points, tied second in takeaways (32) and tied first for game-winning goals (five).
Edmonton also announced that forward Mattias Janmark and defenceman Alec Regula are also not expected to participate in camp as they recover from medical procedures conducted shortly after last season ended.
