The Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers are closing in on a trade involving veteran defenceman Duncan Keith, per Sportsnet‘s Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman reports a deal may take time, but progress was made over the weekend on an exchange that would bring the two-time Norris Trophy winner to Edmonton.
Sportsnet‘s Mark Spector says Oilers’ defenceman Caleb Jones is part of the discussions, which have been rumoured since the end of June.

The 37-year-old Keith — who has a full no-move clause and two years remaining on his 13-year, $72-million contract — was seeking a trade so he could be closer to his son who lives in Western Canada, according to previous reporting from Friedman.
Keith has seen his game drop off from consistently among the league’s best, with a steady decline in his offensive numbers the past three seasons to a career-low 15 points in 54 games this past campaign.
