The Oilers are getting an injection of youth into their lineup as they look to turn around their season.
Edmonton forward Noah Philp is set to make his NHL debut as the Oilers take on the Nashville Predators on Thursday night, the team announced.
Philp, 26, has done well with AHL Bakersfield this season, tallying two goals and an assist in six games. In the 2022-23 season with the Condors, he had 19 goals and 18 assists in 70 games.
"I'm just thrilled," Philp told reporters on Wednesday. "I'm sure lots of guys have said this before on their first chance, but you know, you think about this your whole life. I'm just more than excited."
The decision to call up the rookie comes in the wake of the news surrounding Connor McDavid, who is set to miss two to three weeks with an ankle injury.
Philp took the entirety of the 2023-24 season off due to personal reasons and called his journey to the NHL "an unorthodox one," but said he wouldn't change a thing about it.
The Oilers are currently 4-5-1 and sit seventh in the Pacific division. They take on the 3-5-1 Predators at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sportsnet West.
