Zach Hyman‘s first game against the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to wait.
Edmonton Oilers head coach Dave Tippett announced Tuesday that the forward will be out when his team takes on the Maple Leafs in Edmonton.
The Oilers could receive a boost on defence as blue-liner Duncan Keith, who’s been out since Nov. 23 with an upper-body injury, has been activated from the injured reserve.
Defenceman Philip Broberg was loaned to the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League while forward Brendan Perlini was recalled.

Hyman took a hit from Brady Skjei of the Carolina Hurricanes in the third period on Saturday, left the ice favouring his right shoulder, and did not play another shift. He was absent from the team’s practice on Monday, and Tippett did not elaborate on the nature his injury.
The 29-year-old played his first six NHL seasons with the Maple Leafs before signing a seven-year, $38.5-million deal with the Oilers via free agency in the off-season. He has 19 points through 26 games in his first season in Edmonton.
The Oilers play in Toronto on Jan. 5.
