Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid was issued a major and a game misconduct for boarding in Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Kings.
While battling for the puck in the corner in the Kings end, McDavid put a shoulder into the back of the Kings' Adrian Kempe, who slammed face-first against the glass, at 13:27 of the third period and the score 2-1 for L.A. McDavid was issued a major and a game misconduct, and sent to the dressing room.
On the resulting five-minute power play, the Kings scored three goals to put the game out of reach.
The Kings won the game, 5-1, to lift their record to 10-9-4. The Oilers fell to 16-7-0.
Kempe, who was shaken up and bloodied on the play, later returned to the game, scoring the first of the three power-play goals with McDavid off.
McDavid, who is Edmonton's (and the league's) second-leading scorer with 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 22 games, had 10 minutes in penalties before Sunday's game.
Supplemental discipline in the case of a game misconduct is a possibility when the league's disciplinary committee reviews the incident.
