The Edmonton Oilers are down another goalie.
Edmonton placed Devon Levi on injured reserve Friday after the netminder missed Oilers practice earlier in the day and recalled Matt Tomkins from AHL Bakersfield under emergency conditions.
The Oilers did not announce what forced Levi onto the IR.
Levi had taken over the starting duties in the Oilers net during the club's hot start and posted a 6-1-0 record through his first seven games of the season.
The 24-year-old also owns a 3.11 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage.
Levi made 27 saves in Edmonton's 6-5 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.
Tomkins has six games of NHL experience, taking the ice with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2023-24 season.
The 32-year-old has a 2.40 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in three games with Bakersfield this season.
Edmonton already has free-agent goaltending addition Frederik Andersen on the injured reserve. Tristan Jarry will start Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
