Oilers re-sign deadline acquisition Brett Kulak to four-year, $11-million deal

The HC Signing Season panel breaks down the Oilers move to re-sign defenceman Brett Kulak, and why they see him sliding up the depth chart, and replacing the minutes lost after Duncan Keith retired.

The Edmonton Oilers re-signed trade-deadline acquisition Brett Kulak on Wednesday to a four-year contract worth $11 million.

The cap hit of the deal is $2.75 million per season.

Kulak, 28, is coming off a three-year, $5.55-million contract with the Montreal Canadiens on May 25, 2019. He was obtained from the Canadiens by the Oilers at the deadline in exchange for William Lagesson, a conditional second-round pick in 2022 and a seventh-round pick in 2024.

In 334 games with the Flames, Canadiens and Oilers, Kulak had 15 goals and 49 assists for 64 points. He was taken by Calgary in the fourth round, 105th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
