Edmonton Oilers superfan Ben Stelter has died at the age of six after a long battle with cancer, his father announced.

Two months before his fifth birthday, Stelter was diagnosed with glioblastoma – a form of brain cancer. After meeting the Oilers, he quickly became a motivation for the team during their run to the Western Conference Final, with Edmonton posting a 10-game winning streak at home with Stelter present.

Stelter's battle against cancer not only inspired the Oilers but many others who followed his story. Following the news of his death, tributes started to pour in on social media.
