Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft made his feelings clear about a hit by Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog that forced winger Kailer Yamamoto to exit Game 2 with an upper-body injury.
“I thought the player was in a vulnerable position," Woodcroft said after his team's 4-0 loss.
"I thought the angle of the check, the principal point of contact was the head. It’s not my call. I don’t referee the games. I’ve said this ad nauseum and in the playoffs. My job is to coach and not to make the calls. I’m sure the necessary people at the league will look at that hit."
Landeskog hit Yamamoto hard in open ice midway through the first period. Yamamoto stayed in the game after the hit, but his last shift came with just under five minutes to play in the second period.
Yamamoto didn't join his teammates to start the third period and was ruled out by the team shortly after.
Yamamoto, 23, set a career-high with 20 goals and 41 points this season. He has two goals and seven points in 14 playoff games.
