A.J. Greer's wallet is set to take a hit after an ugly contest between the Panthers and Lightning.
The Florida Panthers forward has been fined $2,213.54, the maximum allowable under the CBA, after roughing Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel, the NHL's department of player safety announced Friday.
The incident occurred in a Thursday night pre-season showdown between the two Florida-based teams.
The play came midway through the first period, as Greer cross-checked Hagel, then appeared to high-stick the Canadian winger and punched him in the head.
Greer received a 10-minute misconduct penalty on the play, and Hagel exited the game with an undisclosed injury.
There was some bad blood between the two sides for the entirety of the contest, as the teams racked up 186 penalty minutes total.
Greer, 28, was a steady presence on the Panthers' bottom-six last season, tallying six goals and 11 assists in 81 regular-season games while racking up 130 penalty minutes. He added two goals and one assist in 16 games during the Panthers' run to the Stanley Cup.
