The Florida Panthers have added to their deep pool of forward talent by acquiring Sam Reinhart from the Buffalo Sabres.

In return, the Sabres will receive goaltending prospect Devon Levi and a 2022 first-round pick.

Reinhart, 25, tied a career-high with 25 goals last season and reached the 40-point plateau for the sixth consecutive year. In Florida, Reinhart joins a Panthers team coming off its best regular season performance ever, where he will be slotted into a forward core that includes stars Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau.

Levi, 19, was a freshman at Northeastern University last season but didn't appear in a game. He was the starter for the silver-medal winning Team Canada at 2021 World Junior Hockey Championships and posted a .964 save percentage with three shutouts in seven games at that tournament.

The move comes hours after the Sabres traded another long-time franchise cornerstone, Rasmus Ristolainen, to the Philadelphia Flyers. The Sabres made two picks in the first round of the draft on Friday: Defenceman Owen Power first overall and right wing Isak Rosen 14th overall.
