While the Florida Panthers compete for the Stanley Cup this month, their AHL squad will be chasing a championship, too.
The Charlotte Checkers advanced to the Calder Cup Final with a 3-2 win over the Laval Rocket Tuesday night. The Checkers swept the best-of-seven series with the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate and now await the winner of a series between the Abbotsford Canucks and Texas Stars. The Canucks lead that series 2-1 with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday in Texas.

Broadcast schedule
It is the first time since 2008 that one NHL organization will be represented in both the Stanley Cup Final and Calder Cup Final. That year, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins both lost the championship series.
The last time both NHL and AHL teams from the same organization won their championships was in 1995 when the New Jersey Devils and Albany River Rats both did it. The other two instances came in 1976 and 1977 when the Montreal Canadiens won the Stanley Cup while their AHL affiliate, the Nova Scotia Voyageurs, won the Calder Cup in back-to-back seasons.
