Florida Panthers forward William Lockwood has been given a three-game suspension for his hit on Minnesota Wild goalie Marc-André Fleury, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Saturday.
Fleury appeared to sustain an injury in the first period on Friday when he was run into by Lockwood behind the net. Taking exception to the collision, teammate Brandon Duhaime exchanged blows with Lockwood after the play, and Lockwood was helped off the ice by teammates afterward.
Fleury did not exit the game until the second period, when he was replaced by Filip Gustavsson. The Wild ultimately beat the Panthers, 6-4.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Saturday that Fleury is expected to miss at least one game.
Lockwood has one assist in 23 games this season.
