Panthers name Shane Churla as club's new director of amateur scouting

After seven years with the Montreal Canadiens, Shane Churla has joined the Florida Panthers as the team's new director of amateur scouting, the club announced Monday.

Churla served in the same role of the Canadiens for the past four seasons, with three years as Montreal's chief amateur scout before that. Prior to his tenure in Quebec, the Fernie, B.C. native 12 years as a scout with the Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars.

"Shane is an experienced and talented addition for our organization in the scouting department," said Panthers GM Bill Zito, per a team release. "We couldn't be more excited about the continued growth of our hockey operations department and our investment in the future of our franchise."

Churla logged 11 years in the NHL as a player, suiting up for 488 games split between the Dallas Stars/Minnesota North Stars, Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames, New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings, and posting 71 points over that span.
