It doesn't look like Patrick Kane will make his Detroit Red Wings debut in his hometown of Buffalo on Tuesday.
After his first full practice with the team on Monday, Kane told reporters he does not expect to play Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres, per Max Bultman of The Athletic.
The Red Wings' next game is on Thursday at home against the visiting San Jose Sharks.
Kane, 35, signed a one-year, $2.75-million deal with the Red Wings last Tuesday and said he figured it would be a week to 10 days before playing.
The four-time all-star was on a line with former Chicago Blackhawk teammate Alex DeBrincat and Joe Veleno at practice Monday.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion with Chicago and 2016 league MVP chose Detroit over a handful of other interested teams, including his hometown Sabres, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the reigning Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers.
The Red Wings are third in the Atlantic Division and making a strong push to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
The Sabres, meanwhile, have been a major disappointment, sitting second-last in the Atlantic.
Kane finished last season with the New York Rangers after a trade deadline deal.
The hope is Kane can return to the all-star form he displayed before the nagging hip injury began hampering his play. He had 92 points in 78 games as recently as the 2021-22 season, and his 1,237 over his career are the second-most among U.S.-born players.
