The Pittsburgh Penguins' star sophomore had his pre-season debut cut short.
Ben Kindel exited Monday's exhibition game against the Buffalo Sabres prior to the second period with a lower-body injury, the team announced.
It's unclear when Kindel suffered the injury.
After the game, head coach Dan Muse told reporters he had no further update and that Kindel is still undergoing evaluation.
The 19-year-old is entering his second year with the Penguins after breaking into the league last season as an 18-year-old rookie. In 77 regular-season games, the Coquitlam, B.C. native had 17 goals and 35 points, tied for eighth among rookie scoring.
Only one other 18-year-old, Matthew Schaefer, cracked the top-10 in first-year scoring.
