The Pittsburgh Penguins may have to go an extended period of time without one of their most promising youngsters.
Second-year centre Ben Kindel is being considered week-to-week after suffering a lower-body injury in pre-season action, the team told reporters on Thursday.
"It's looking more week-to-week at this point," Amanda Kessel, director of minor-league operations and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins assistant general manager, said. "We're awaiting some more testing results today."
He had previously been listed as day-to-day on the team's injury report.
Kindel was hurt in Monday's pre-season game against the Buffalo Sabres. He was ruled out during the first intermission, though it's unclear when or how Kindel suffered the injury.
The 19-year-old is entering his second year with the Penguins after breaking into the league last season as an 18-year-old rookie. In 77 regular-season games, the Coquitlam, B.C. native had 17 goals and 35 points, tied for eighth among rookie scoring.
He was selected by the Penguins 11th overall in the 2025 Draft after playing his major junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen in the WHL.
