The Pittsburgh Penguins will continue to be without their two franchise pillars when they take on the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.
Sidney Crosby (lower-body) and Evgeni Malkin (upper-body) won't take the ice due to injury and remain day-to-day, Pittsburgh announced.
Crosby, 38, exited Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators in the second period before being ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
It's unclear what caused Crosby to leave the game. After the game, which the Penguins won 3-2 in a shootout, coach Dan Muse said he had no update on Crosby's condition.
Crosby played 6:39 before he was forced to exit. It was just his fifth game back with the Penguins after suffering an injury during the Olympics.
The Penguins captain has a team-leading 64 points and 28 goals in 61 games this season.
Malkin, meanwhile, will miss his third consecutive game. He last played on Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes. Like Crosby, it is unclear when he suffered his injury.
The 39-year-old forward has 15 goals and 37 assists in 50 games.
Pittsburgh enters Saturday's game against Dallas in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. It currently sits second in the Metropolitan Division with 88 points.
The injuries come during a very busy stretch for the Penguins, who play at the Islanders on Monday, then host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Pittsburgh is trying to return to the post-season for the first time since 2022.
