The red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins were missing a few key members when they hit the ice for practice on Friday
Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang would be absent because of injuries, the Penguins announced.
Malkin has been dealing with a shoulder injury since early December, causing him to miss one month before returning on Jan. 10.
Despite only playing in 37 games this season, the centre ranks second on the team with 13 goals and 41 points, only trailing captain Sidney Crosby (57).
Letang has been healthy for the majority of the season, but recently missed two games against the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers with an upper-body injury. He returned on Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks.
The defenceman has three goals and 25 points in 50 games this season.
The team said that their statuses will be updated on Saturday, with head coach Dan Muse confirming that there are no updates on the situation.
"A couple things just being looked at. And so, I don't have any updates right now. I'm still waiting to get some updates. We're going to provide those once we have them. But I don't have anything to report (right now)," Muse said, per Penguins team reporter Michelle Crechiolo.
The Penguins, who sit second in the Metropolitan Division and are riding a five-game win streak, host the New York Rangers on Saturday.
