The Pittsburgh Penguins have promoted Patrik Allvin to assistant general manager, filling the void left by the firing of Jason Karmanos late last month.
Allvin, a native of Falun, Sweden, most recently served as the Penguins’ director of amateur scouting for the past three seasons, but joined the organization as a European scout for the 2006-07 campaign.
“Patrik has made a lot of contributions during his 14 years with Pittsburgh, and has proven to be a valuable asset for us,” executive vice-president and GM Jim Rutherford said in a press release.
“We’ve been impressed with his hockey knowledge and work ethic, and I look forward to working more closely with him.”
As AGM, Allvin, 46, will help Rutherford in all aspects of the team’s hockey operations and will continue to oversee its amateur scouting efforts in North America and Europe.
Sam Ventura, who was serving in the role since Karmanos’s firing, will assume the role of director of hockey operations and hockey research. Ventura is the co-founder of the hockey analytics website war-on-ice.com.
The Penguins parted ways with Karmanos, a long-time associate of Rutherford, on Oct. 26.
