The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed defenceman Chad Ruhwedel to a one-year, $750,000 contract extension, the team announced Friday.
Ruhwedel is presently signed through the 2020-21 season, and so the extension will kick in for 2021–22.
The 30-year-old appeared in 41 games for the Penguins last year, racking up two goals, four assists and six points. Those 41 contests played were just three shy of tying his career-high (which he set in 2017-18), while his two goals tied a career-high (set in 2016-17 and in 2017-18).
A part of the 2017 Stanley Cup Championship team, Ruhwedel has played 18 career post-season games, including a career-high 12 in the 2018 playoffs. He was in the lineup when Pittsburgh defeated the Washington Capitals in a Game 7 road victory at the Verizon Center.
