The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without their top prospect for an extended period of time.
Rutger McGroarty is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury, general manager Kyle Dubas told reporters on Tuesday.
"It's going to be a little more of an indefinite timeline because of his age and the potential he has," Dubas said. "Just have to be very patient with Rutger on that one."
The 21-year-old spent the majority of last season in the AHL with the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he scored 14 goals and registered 39 points in 60 games.
He played eight games with the big club as well, with a goal and an assist.
McGroarty, initially drafted by the Winnipeg Jets 14th overall in 2022, was traded to the Penguins in a one-for-one trade for Brayden Yager last off-season after indicating he wouldn't sign in Winnipeg.
