The Pittsburgh Penguins are plucking some blue-line help from a Metropolitan Division rival.
Defenceman Alex Alexeyev has signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Penguins after the blue-liner was not extended a qualifying offer by the Washington Capitals, the team announced Wednesday.
Alexeyev, 25, was held out the majority of last season after being healthy scratched by the Capitals in all but eight regular-season games. He was held without a point in those appearances.
However, he made 10 post-season appearances with the Capitals, but was still unable to net a point.
Since being drafted by the Capitals 31st overall in 2018, the St. Petersburg, Russia, native has tallied one goal and seven assists in 80 games.
