Penguins sign defenceman Ty Smith to one-year contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenceman Ty Smith to a one-year contract worth $775,000.

Smith appeared in nine games with the Penguins last season recording a goal and four points while adding 24 points in 39 games in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The 23-year-old was originally selected 17th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils. He was traded to Pittsburgh in a deal for John Marino.
