The New York Rangers acquired forward Nic Petan from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Turner Elson, the team announced Friday.
Petan, a former Maple Leaf, Canuck and Jet, has split the 2023-24 season between the Wild and their AHL affiliate. With Iowa, he was the team's leading scorer with 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points. With Minnesota, he has two assists in six games this season.
Petan, 28, has seven goals and 28 assists for 35 points in 170 NHL games with the Wild, Canucks, Maple Leafs and Jets. In 2016-17, he posted a career-high 12 assists and 13 points with the Jets.
A Delta, B.C., native, Petan has appeared in 281 career AHL games in eight seasons with Iowa, Abbotsford, Toronto and Manitoba, recording 281 points (92 goals and 89 assists).
Petan was Winnipeg's second-round pick (43rd overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.
Elson, 31, has five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 38 games with the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford. In three NHL games with the Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings, he has one assist.
