Alexis Lafrenière appears poised to secure a big pay raise.
Contract talks between the New York Rangers and one of their most important forwards have intensified, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Friday.
"We'll see where that goes over the next 24 to 48 hours but it sounds like there's been some working there to get something done," Friedman said on The FAN Hockey Show on Friday.
PuckPedia and Larry Brooks of The New York Post reported that the contract will be for seven years and just under $7.5 million per season.
Lafrenière is in the final year of a two-year bridge deal and coming off a breakout campaign last season. In 2023-24, he scored 28 goals and 57 points, and he's kept that momentum this season, with four goals and seven points in seven games.
The Rangers selected Lafrenière first overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
