Rangers’ Buchnevich to have hearing Thursday for high-sticking Mantha

Pavel Buchnevich gets a five minute major and game misconduct for crosschecking Anthony Mantha in the face.

In the fallout from Wednesday's tense reunion of the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals, Pavel Buchnevich is set to have a hearing with the league's department of player safety for an incident involving Anthony Mantha.

The incident in question occurred early in the second period of Wednesday's game, as tempers boiled over following a series of run-ins between the two forwards.

A hit from Buchnevich on Mantha along the wall in the second frame was followed by a series of slashes from the Capitals forward, who skated away and eventually doubled back to Buchnevich, at which time the Rangers forward caught Mantha with a cross-check to the face.

Buchnevich, the Ranger at the centre of the Tom Wilson incident one game prior — when he was punched in the head while down on the ice by the Capitals enforcer — was assessed a major penalty and misconduct as a result of his high crosscheck on Mantha.
