The New York Rangers signed goaltender Keith Kinkaid to a two-year contract on Friday.
Kinkaid, 31, brings goalie depth to New York as the team continues to makeover its crease. The club bought out longtime franchise goalie Henrik Lundqvist last week, turning to Igor Shesterkin and Alexandar Georgiev. Both netminders can be exempt from the Seattle expansion draft — Shesterkin is still on his rookie deal and thus ineligible which means RFA Georgiev would be under team protection — so signing Kinkaid ensures the Rangers are fulfilling expansion requirements of exposing one goalie.
After leading the Devils in games played in both 2017-2018 and 2018-19, Kinkaid spent last season in Montreal where he appeared in six games.
